Which NCCD software is best?

It depends on who in your school gathers the evidence. If a coordinator enters it, a record-and-upload tool may be enough. If the evidence sits with classroom educators, look at how easily they can add it. This page does not rank the tools; it lists the same facts for each so you can decide.

Do we need software for the NCCD at all?

No. The official NCCD guidance says schools are not required to create new or additional evidence. Many schools use their existing systems and documents. Software helps when evidence is scattered or hard to find at census time.

What should we ask a vendor?

Where student data is stored, whether the product holds an ST4S badge or has been assessed by your sector, how educators add evidence, what it costs per student, and whether it connects to your school management system.

Does any of these tools decide a student’s level of adjustment?

Under the NCCD model, the level of adjustment and category of disability are decided by the school team. None of the sources reviewed describe a tool making that decision, and Descant does not.

How to choose

Start with who holds the evidence. The official guidance lists four areas of evidence: assessed needs, the adjustments provided, monitoring and review, and consultation with the student and family. Most of it is created by classroom educators, in the course of teaching. If only a coordinator can add evidence, someone ends up re-typing what educators already know.

Who adds evidence? Coordinators only, or every educator who teaches the student?
How long does one entry take? Ask for a demonstration with a real classroom example.
Where is student data stored? And does the product hold an ST4S badge or your sector’s approval?
What does it cost for your school? Per enrolled student and per NCCD student are very different numbers.
Does the AI decide anything? The level of adjustment is your team’s professional judgement.
