Descant is a student-support and NCCD evidence record for Australian schools. It is made by a small Australian company that already builds documentation tools for health professionals.
Who started it
Descant was started by Gavin Duarte, an Australian registered psychologist with dual endorsement in Clinical Psychology and Educational and Developmental Psychology, and a Board-approved supervisor. Gavin has worked in government, specialist and independent schools, as part of their wellbeing and inclusion teams.
That covers both sides of student support: health and wellbeing from clinical practice, and disability inclusion from educational and developmental psychology. In every school, the same problem kept coming up: what educators notice about a student gets lost between the corridor, the inbox and the census. Descant exists so that nothing an educator tells the support team gets lost.
How we work
People decide
Descant writes notes and gathers evidence. It never triages, diagnoses or screens a child; your team decides what anything means.
Student information stays in Australia
Records, and the audio of spoken notes while it is turned into text, are processed and stored in Australia. Recordings are deleted once transcribed.
No student details in email
Emails and links name nobody. The details sit behind sign-in or a secure, single-purpose link.
